Useful information about the place and its history
Lieske was mentioned for the first time in a document as Leszk in the year 1474. It was laid out as a street village. The village fell under the sovereignty of Senftenberg from the 15th Century. The farmers from Lieske, just like the farmers from Meuro, Klettwitz and Sorno, were obliged to provide services to the Senftenberg district. They had to transport manure from the sheep pens to the district's vineyards. These were situated in the so-called “Hörlitzer Flur” (Hörlitz corridor).
The village was partially demolished to make way for the Sedlitz mine between the years 1962 and 1967 and 35 residents were relocated. On 1st June 1974, Lieske was integrated into the town of Bahnsdorf. During the course of the regional reorganisation of municipalities, the community of Neu-Seeland was formed from the communities of Lindchen, Lubochow and Ressen as well as Bahnsdorf with Lieske on 1st February 2002.
Lake Sedlitz should be fully flooded by 2019, however, some intermediate uses as a landing place for amphibious aircraft and for rafting are already possible.
Lieske lakeside beach
Lieske is now situated directly on Lake Sedlitz and will develop into a local recreation area in the coming years. On the west side of the site, there is already a public car park with a toilet block. A new restaurant for day-trippers should also be created as a private follow-up investment. The bank area will be turned into a bathing beach by the mining restoration work. The LSB association would like to build a viewing point, barrier-free access to the lake, a passenger boat pier and a playground. A bathing beach with a rest area for people walking around the lake is also planned on the east side. A medium-sized resort with holiday bungalows is planned as a private follow-up investment.
