Water experiences in the Lusatian Lakeland

A spectacular water landscape develops

From the bird’s-eye-view they already shine directly into the sky – the new “blue eyes” of Lusatia. Where once the mining of brown coal determined the rhythm of life and nature, humans create the largest water landscape of Europe. The character of the region will be change by 23 new lakes with a total volume of more than 14.000 hectares. In the heart of the lake area of Lusatia 10 lakes and about 7.000 hectares water surface will be connected by navigable channels. The spectacular water world is largely enough in order to give each lake its own character.

The people living in Lusatia know much about flooding of the opencast mining. Already decades ago at the Senftenberger See as well as the Knappensee and Silbersee are developed popular recreational areas which invite – young and old – for swimming, diving, sailing and surfing, canoeing and fishing.
For years continious campers and active holiday-makers forget the stressful everyday life at these waters far away of the hectic tumult in the large cities. In the meantime on the other lakes the touristic usage also began. Between April and October water sportsmen and people who are looking for relaxation find already various possibilities for sport and fun at Geierswalder See and Partwitzer See as well as Bärwalder See, Dreiweiberner See and Sedlitzer See.
