Unforgettable adventures between giant technology and canyon landscapes

The mining industry and coal production shaped the area of Lusatia since the middle of the 19th century. In former times.
The monumental buildings and fascinating constructions of the domestic energy industry were locked for the broad public.
Today some old power stations and briquette factories became experiencable for the visitors of the Lusatian Lakeland. The mute, technical witnesses of the mining industry received a second life as landmarks, museums or places of events. At the same time they offer an impressing backdrop for historical memory.

Each year thousands of visitors climb on the “Besucherbergwerk F60”, the lying “Eifel Tower” of Lusatia, at the Bergheider See. The energy factory in Knappenrode and the bio towers in Lauchhammer are popular points of attraction as well.
Numerous lookouts at active and former coal mines document the impressive landscape change in the region very clearly. At the edge of the active opencast mining Welzow-Süd and Nochten the visitors receive the unique opportunity to observe huge coal excavators and conveyor during work.

Spectacular impressions supply the glaring interrelation of nature. With the Lusatian Lakeland develop from the former opencast mining the largest artificially created water landscape in Europe. Different experience routes start from the IBA-terraces by walking, with a Quad or Jeep into the bizarre world of the charred holes, pass deserts and steppes, unique dune formations and elemental canyons. In different places the guests can already curve over recultivated areas or observe the new lakes while their flooding.
